锌缺乏可导致高血压 Zinc deficiency can cause hypertension

Zinc deficiency can cause hypertension

A new study finds low serum levels of zinc may raise the risk of high blood pressure or hypertension in humans. This is so because zinc deficiency can have a negative impact on how the kidney process sodium.

During the study of two groups of mice, one with sufficient zinc and another deficient, researchers from Emory University found that mice with zinc deficiency developed high blood pressure and decreased sodium levels in urine.

Then the researchers fed a small group of zinc deficient mice with a zinc rich diet and found that dietary supplementation with zinc lowered blood pressure and increased the urinary sodium levels.

The results of the study, which was published in the American Journal of Physiology-Renal Physiology indicate that zinc deficiency increases renal sodium re-adsorption which boosts blood pressures.

Seafood like oysters, crab, dark meat turkey and chicken are among the best sources of zinc. Zinc supplements that can be used to prevent zinc deficiency include zinc gluconate, zinc acetate, zinc picolinate, and zinc sulfate.
