Scientists say cancer is man-made
A study released in 2010 by University of Manchester scientists in UK suggests that cancer is a modern, man-made disease caused by modern environmental factors such as pollution and diet consisting of highly processed foods.
The scientists came to the conclusion after reviewing remains and literature form ancient Egypt and Greece and earlier periods. They found cancer in only one out of hundreds of Egyptian mummies. The study was reported in Nature Reviews Cancer.
Additionally, literature does not report any cancer. All evidence suggests that cancer was extremely rare in the ancient world.
Cancer incidence has been on the rise as a country or region is being industrialized. Industrialization offers modern people a new lifestyle to follow in addition to causing environmental pollution.
The industrialized countries like US and European countries have had high incidence of all types of cancer. Thirty years ago in China, cancer incidence was low, compared to rich countries. Now, China now has similarly high incidence of cancer.
Good news is that cancer may not be a genetic disease. Some researchers believe cancer results from genetic mutations. The fact is, cancer can be controlled or even reversed or cured.
