It has been known that inflammation can play an important role in cancer development and progression.  High salt intake is associated with a number of chronic inflammatory disease such as hypertension, myocardial infarction, neurological ischemic attack, autoimmune diseases and cancers.

Recently researchers review the issue and suggest that cancer patients may be better off cutting their salt intake. High salt induces angiogenesis and compromised immunity both of which are linked to cancer proliferation.

The review also shows that high salt enhances Warburg-like metabolic effects in cancer cells and induces pro-tumor MΦ2-macrophages.

One thing high salt does is induce the production of carcinogen by Helicobacter pylori in the stomach and increase the risk for gastric cancer. (David Liu)
