A study published on JAMA Network Open suggests that the frequency of drinking alcohol is more important a factor than the amount of alcohol consumed when it comes to its effect on gastrointestinal cancer risk.  So the risk of cancer from drinking alcohol can be significant even if you drink a bit a time, but very frequently.
