Soursop (Annona muricata) also known as graviola or guanaban provides lots of nutrients including folate, niacin, thiamin, vitamin C and minerals like calcium, magnesium, potassium, and fiber.

Soursop, a tropical fruit, has been used in holistic medicine to treat stomach discomfort, coughs, asthma, skin conditions, gout, fever among other things because of its antiviral, anti-inflammatory, anti-parasitic and antimicrobial properties.

The most important benefit may be its anticancer properties. Recently, scientists with the Tepic Institute of Technology in Mexico discovered that acetogenins in soursop have potent chemotherapeutic activities. The scientists found acetogenins can “encapsulate” tumors.

Another study published in 1997 in the Journal of Medicinal Chemistry has raggedy found that soursop shows 200 times as effective as chemotherapy in killing breast cancer cells.

The strongest anticancer compounds come from the leaves of soursop, according to another study published in 2015 in Universa Medicina.  That study indicates that this plant extract can be used to treat hormone sensitive breast cancer.

Another study published in 2016 in MBC also suggests that the querulous extract of soursop leaves can be used to treat breast cancer.
