Tuesday 03/31/2020 (jkzx.com) – It is not just cell towers and cell phones that generate harmful electromagnetic fields (EMF). A recent study suggested electronics like laptops and TV sets can also do the harm.
Stephen S. Aderemi from University of Lagos in Akoka, Nigeria and colleagues conducted an animal study to understand how EMF from laptop computers can affect the sperm quality and quantity in male albino rats. They found exposure to laptop computer can reduce both sperm quality and quantity.
For the study, male albino rats aged 10-12 weeks old were exposed to RF-EMR from laptop computers for two, four, six, and eight hours per 4 weeks.
The researchers found that male rats exposed to laptop computer display unit had their sperm motility, sperm viability and sperm count significantly reduced. Additionally, testosterone and follicle stimulating hormone levels were also significantly lowered.
Exposure to EMF from laptop computer also resulted in abnormal sperm cells even though the sperm morphology did not change significantly.
The study concluded “This study therefore showed that EMR from a charging laptop can significantly affect semen quality, male fertility and rendered male reproductive hormone unstable with no effect on prostrate specific antigen.
