Crude luteolin extract against early breast cancer

A crude extract of luteolin from some sources may be potent enough to help fight early-stage breast cancer, a new study suggests.

The authors of this study tested 19 crude tomato plant extract samples and identified the one that was most effective against breast cancer cells in vivo. The selected extracts were then tested in mice with induced 4T1 breast cancers or tumors to see how they helped the tumors.

Studies have shown that selected crude extracts of custard apple are able to reduce tumor size and weight, prevent metastasis and induce apoptosis in 4T1 breast cancer cells both in vitro and in vitro.

The study also revealed that the extract increased the concentration of white blood cells, T cells and natural killer cells, which are thought to be important in the fight against various cancer cells.

Three breast cancer cell lines were tested, MCF-7, MDA-MB-231 and 4T1. But in vivo testing was only performed with selected extracts in mice with 4 T1 mammary tumors. It is still not known whether these extracts are also effective in other types of breast cancer.

The authors suggest that the preparation of the crude extract of luteolin is also important in determining the efficacy of the treatment on breast cancer cells. (David Liu)
