A survey found that 72 percent of Americans believe coconut oil is “healthy” and is popular on ketogenic and paleo diets. However, most nutrition experts disagree with this view. Coconut oil is 92% saturated fat. A diet high in saturated fat increases total cholesterol and bad LDL cholesterol, increasing the risk of cardiovascular disease.
